The great problem of humanity for both believers and not-yet believers, is laziness.

Paul said "the love of money is the  root of all evil."  That verse is in total agreement with what I am saying. The love of money is the promise of power without having to work for it . It's the promise that Proverbs warns against a couple of dozen times - "an inheritance hastily gotten will be lost quickly…", etc.

The idea behind the love of money is that we all want the easy way out. We want the way that allows us our way of life without having to work our way through sweat equity for it. I'm not talking necessarily about having a labor job, but putting the time and effort into our vocations in order to earn what we earn.

We all, deep down, wish for an easy way out in life. We all wish for the winning lottery ticket approach to living. But God warns us that if we were to win in such a way that kind of winning will grow wings and fly away quickly like it does almost always.

It all boils down to the most basic, lower nature of all humans . We are just plain lazy.
