How do we prevent leadership meltdowns?
“I will periodically visit the hospital whether I feel the need to or not. “
By the word “Hospital” I mean the general idea of inner care, care for the soul. For me this has meant seeing some sort of therapist at least once a month for the past 18 years. Heading into that regular connecting time I realized that I was depressed to some degree. My wife Janie and I had planted 3 churches in a handful of years and were living under tremendous financial stress. As my therapist put it, “Anyone on the planet would be at least moderately depressed under those circumstances. It’s amazing you aren’t in need of hospitalization.”
I saw significant fruit from that relationship and have continued to see that therapist each month for many years.
It only makes sense that once we are involved in warfare, we are going to be wounded in battle. Wounds are tended to appropriately in a hospital. The only spiritual institution that has done a half decent job of this, though far from perfect, is the Roman Catholic church (having written that I’m sure I have offended many readers, but it is the truth just the same).
More coming…
