We need to avoid "dumbing down" the message. For example, in the course of a series, we take head on issues that the scriptures address, with almost no concern for “My, my, what will the not-yet believers think of this? We might scare them off! If we mention the topic of “Hell” for example, surveys show this is offensive to the majority of Americans, so let’s wait until they come to Christ, then let’s approach such heavy topics…”
We haven’t done it that way in the least. When it comes to the end of every weekend’s message we lay it on the line – “You, me, we all are in desperate need of the intervention of God’s Spirit in our lives or we are "up the creek without a paddle." We are all addicted to behavioral patterns that are so absolutely engrained in each of us we are hopeless, helpless. You and I are pathetic. Not to insult you, but unless something happens beyond your present situation, the future doesn’t look all that bright. Let’s change together…”
Today’s assignment: Think about your messages. Are you side-stepping the tough topics? Ask God to set your "speaking calendar" for the next several months. Listen to His guidance.
