God wants to do something amazing in your area of the world – in your geography.
For some years I bought the line that is often spread by overly spiritual people that goes like this, “It’s not about results - it’s about faithfulness.” Those sorts go on to say in more detail, “Those people (referring to me and others like me I suspect – hey I can pick up on the message!) who incessantly write and speak of church growth (incessantly? that’s a bit of an overstatement!) – they think that results are the only thing that matters. They don’t understand the concept of grace!”
The above quote is approximately what someone wrote of me after reading precisely one line that I wrote in an article – just one line. I tried, in a gentle, nice, kind way to respond back to the writer by explaining that perhaps they didn’t understand me fully and perhaps they needed to read more than just this one sentence I had written to grasp what I believed about the why’s and wherefore’s of the kingdom of God. Long story short, that didn’t work. This person launched a barrage of fellow bloggers on me and by the end of the day over one hundred (no exaggeration) had written (attacked) my one line and assumed I believed an entire body of theological issues I in fact do not believe. Sometimes the Church can be a very unsafe place to reside, have you discovered that yet?
New Thought: Faithfulness is a fruit of the Spirit indeed. God looks with favor upon all who walk in faithfulness. But faithfulness, fruitfulness (in terms of seeing people come to Christ, the expansion of the Church with people being baptized, and other measurable factors) are not mutually exclusive ideas.
Practical Idea: Don’t assume, as I did for some years, that faithfulness is synonymous with a lack of momentum. If you are lacking momentum, perhaps God is calling you to new pastures.
