Step Two:
Give up on your fear of people.
Start being a respecter of people in the best sense of the word.
Start introducing yourself to EVERYONE you run into.
It is simpler than you might think. “Hi, my name is Steve. What’s your?”
Then follow it up with safe questions.
Avoid questions that put people in categories.
Category questions are ones like, “So what do you do for a llving?”
The church in America is famous for pigeonholing people as soon as possible.
From there it goes onto “What kind of a car to you prefer?”
It all boils down to “Do you fit into our little club or not?”
Safe questions are things like:
“What gets you excied?”
“What makes you tick?”
“So how do you spend your time?”
You’d be surprised at how much better that question is than “Where do you work?” I have met many who don’t work but not because they don’t want to work. They have legitimate reasons for not working but don’t want to be categorized.
Remember: Avoid any appearance of categorizing anyone.
Jesus loves / loved all regardless of their background, their story.
